Our focus for this event will be on two technologies. Virtualization of the desktop (VDI) and Provisioning (OS Streaming) to physical desktops and servers. This Lunch & Learn will be a live demo format.

The demonstrations with Provisioning will showcase how IT departments can deploy desktops or server OS to bare metal in a matter of minutes, roll them back with a reboot and manage the entire process from a central console. This is one of the most impressive technologies I have seen in years and gives IT Departments the agility to change operating systems, software and deploy updates to one or thousands of end users.

Why should students attend this combo instead of the CTX-1259 course? The CTX-1259AI instructor-led class itself covers the features of Presentation Server 4, but does not completely prepare the student for a real-world implementation. Rather, it prepares them to administer an already-existing PS 4.5 server farm. The students do install the Presentation Server in the classroom, and manage the server farm with the Citrix utilities. But there are two critical pieces that are not included in a CCA course: Microsoft Active Directory profiles and Group Policy issues from the point of view of “Citrix Best Practices”.

Without a solid understanding of these issues, a Citrix implementation of anything more then one server will only temporarily work, and will eventually become a more-and-more expensive mess. What we offer at CNS is an opportunity to learn how to build the network properly from the beginning, thereby avoiding significant future difficulties. This is done by adding a single extra day on the end of the 1259AI which covers Active Directory, as well as extensive monitoring, management, and optimization tips. Again, this is done with custom slides and handouts exclusively available at CNS, as well as hands on exercises and examples that are included in the extra courseware. Any student planning to install or migrate to Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 on their own is highly encouraged to attend the additional day and receive the additional training materials.

The 1259 course is 5 day introductory program for Citrix, featuring the latest release, Presentation Server 4.5, and the new “Access Management Console”. The course begins with a discussion of Citrix “Application Delivery” technologies in today’s marketplace, and follows into the installation and configuration of a Citrix Presentation 4.5 Server.

As the course goes on, students publish applications, configure server-to-client redirection (offloading multimedia to client devices), client-to-server redirection (file type associations from the ICA clients to the apps published on the server), install and configure ICA clients with all the new features and deployment options, configure Citrix Policies, configure Server Health Monitoring and Recovery, Load Management, Installation Manager, the new generation 2.0 of Application Isolation Environments, Application Streaming (formerly Citrix’ “Project Tarpon”), including the Citrix Streaming client and the Citrix Streaming Profiler.

Students spend a half-day on all the technical details of the PS4 printing environment. The course introduces each topic, involves hands-on labs, and covers Citrix recommendations and "Best Practices". The final day of the course involves deploying and securing applications over the web, with hands-on labs for building and configuring a Web Interface 4.5 with Citrix Secure Gateway 3.0.

This course is intended for IT professionals, such as server, network, systems and help desk administrators familiar with Microsoft® Windows® environments. Systems engineers, analysts, consultants, and architects are also appropriate candidates for this course.
