Solar Power to the People

M-KOPA Solar is a consumer solar energy provider headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, with additional offices in Tanzania, Nigeria and Uganda.  The company mostly serves low-income African households that still rely on kerosene for lighting and power.  Over the years, M-KOPA connected over 750,000 homes and businesses to affordable solar energy, saving customers roughly $400 million.  Customers of M-KOPA enjoy 75 million hours of kerosene-free lighting per month, all for about 50 cents a day.

Not surprisingly, M-KOPA Solar experienced rapid growth.  M-KOPA just passed 50,000 households and over 2 million customers.  Meanwhile, M-KOPA now employs over 1,000 full-time employees along with a1,000-person salesforce.

Due to this growth, M-KOPA experienced enormous complexity in its supply chain, logistics, financials and compliance requirements.  The company needed a single platform to consolidate its reporting, which would promote timely responses and meet customer demand quickly.

Staying Dynamic with Microsoft Dynamics

Everything changed when M-KOPA decided to adopt Microsoft Dynamics 365.  By implementing a full suite of IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS solutions, M-KOPA met demands and maintained a stable IT environment.  Today, most of their business is in the cloud, which allows for greater security and flexibility.

The ability to rapidly scale is why M-KOPA chose to upgrade its operations and accelerate its digital transformation.  Technology must not only transform along with the business, but it must also anticipate those changes.
